چکیده

Biomechanical and physiological parameters were compared during voluntary contractions (20% of maximal torque) sustained to failure as subjects either supported an inertial load (high-compliance task) or exerted an equivalent force against a rigid restraint (low-compliance task). The highcompliance task was briefer than the low-compliance task although the decline in maximal torque and changes in muscle oxygenation were similar at the end of both tasks. These data suggest that differences in fatigability between low-compliance and high-compliance tasks likely do not originate from muscle blood flow and oxygenation.

The interaction between peripheral and central fatigue at different muscle temperatures during sustained isometric contractions.

Changes in central fatigue have been linked to active and passive changes in core temperature, as well as integration of sensory feedback from thermoreceptors in the skin. However, the effects of muscle temperature (Tm), and thereby metaboreceptor and local afferent nerve temperature, on central fatigue (measured using voluntary activation percentage) during sustained, high muscle fatigue exerc...

Low mean level sustained and intermittent grip exertions: influence of age on fatigue and recovery.

The goal of this study was to quantify localised muscle fatigue resulting from low mean levels of exertion in younger (< 40 years) and older (> 50 years) adults. Fatigue, elicited in the finger flexor muscles by intermittent (10% mean maximum voluntary contraction (MVC)) and sustained (8% MVC) handgrip exercises, was quantified by a muscle twitch force response before, immediately after and dur...

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of different loads on tremor around 10 Hz during fatiguing contractions. Methods: Eighteen healthy volunteers performed sustained isometric knee extensions at 30%, 50% and 70% maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). During the fatiguing contractions, mechanical recordings were made with a high-resolution force sensor. Tremorpower was ...

Recovery from supraspinal fatigue is slowed in old adults after fatiguing maximal isometric contractions.

This study compared the contribution of supraspinal fatigue to muscle fatigue in old and young adults. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) of motor cortex was used to assess voluntary activation during maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) of elbow flexor muscles in 17 young adults (25.5 +/- 3.6 yr; mean +/- SD) and 7 old adults (73.0 +/- 3.3 yr). Subjects performed a fatigue task involving...

Myoelectric manifestations of fatigue in voluntary and electrically elicited contractions.

The time course of muscle fiber conduction velocity and surface myoelectric signal spectral (mean and median frequency of the power spectrum) and amplitude (average rectified and root-mean-square value) parameters was studied in 20 experiments on the tibialis anterior muscle of 10 healthy human subjects during sustained isometric voluntary or electrically elicited contractions. Voluntary contra...
